United States Map Viewer
This is a free online map viewer for the United States. It combines USGS topographic maps and imagery, USDA NAIP aerial photography, and national datasets for geology, soils, land cover, hydrography, wetlands, flood hazard, federal lands and weather in one map.
Land and nature: the USGS state geologic map compilation (with detailed California, Utah and Texas geologic maps), USDA Web Soil Survey soils, NLCD 2021 land cover, USGS National Hydrography and NHDPlus HR streams, HUC8 watershed boundaries, the National Wetlands Inventory, Quaternary faults, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service critical habitat, and MTBS burned-area boundaries.
Boundaries and hazards: National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service boundaries and ranger districts, the BLM Public Land Survey (township and section), FEMA flood hazard zones, current wildfire perimeters from the National Interagency Fire Center, NOAA weather radar, 24-hour precipitation, weather watches and warnings, lightning strike density, GOES infrared, visible, water vapor and shortwave imagery every 5 minutes, sea level rise scenarios from 1 to 10 feet, and AIS vessel traffic density. County boundaries, USGS protected areas (PAD-US), EPA ecoregions, waterfowl flyways, National Wildlife Refuge boundaries, refuge wilderness and NOAA critical habitat help with habitat and land-ownership questions. Live layers show California highway cameras (Caltrans), Austin traffic cameras (City of Austin) and the buses, subway and trains of the Boston area (MBTA). A feeder-bird layer summarises Project FeederWatch counts. Layers with a magnifier tag in the Layers panel can be queried by clicking the map.
Use the search box to find a place, measure distances and areas, draw lines, polygons and buffers, click the map to query the layers that support it, convert coordinates between decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds and UTM, and load your own KML or KMZ files. It is free for personal use and needs no account.
