Overview

AeroPlanimetry ("we", "our", or "the site") is a free online GIS map viewer operated at aeroplanimetry.com. This policy explains what data is collected when you use the site, how it is used, and your rights under applicable privacy law including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Summary: We do not collect or store personal information directly. Third-party services embedded in the site (mapping APIs, ad networks, and analytics) may collect data as described below. You can control cookie-based data collection via the consent banner.

Data We Collect

AeroPlanimetry does not operate a user account system, login, or database. We do not knowingly collect, store, or process personal data on our own servers beyond standard web server access logs generated by Vercel (our hosting provider).

Vercel may retain standard server access logs including:

  • IP address (used for abuse prevention and rate limiting)
  • Request path, timestamp, and HTTP status code
  • Browser user-agent string

These logs are used solely for operational and security purposes and are governed by Vercel's Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

The site integrates several third-party services that may independently collect data when you use the map. Each service operates under its own privacy policy:

  • Esri / ArcGIS — Provides basemap tiles, satellite imagery, geocoding, and elevation data. Tile requests are proxied through our server; your IP address is not forwarded to Esri directly. Governed by Esri's Privacy Statement.
  • LINZ (Land Information New Zealand) — Provides New Zealand basemap tiles. Governed by LINZ's Privacy Statement.
  • OpenStreetMap / PDOK / other tile providers — Some map layers may cause your browser to make tile requests directly to third-party tile servers, which may log your IP address. Each provider's own privacy policy applies.
  • jsDelivr CDN — Delivers the MapML JavaScript library. May log IP and user-agent. Governed by jsDelivr's Privacy Policy.

Cookies & Local Storage

AeroPlanimetry itself does not set any cookies for tracking or identification purposes. We store one item in your browser's localStorage:

  • cookie_consent — Records whether you have accepted or declined non-essential cookies. This value never leaves your browser.

Third-party services loaded after you grant consent (advertising and analytics) may set their own cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the page footer, which will clear third-party cookies and reload the page.

Advertising

AeroPlanimetry is supported by advertising. Ad scripts are only loaded after you grant consent via the cookie banner. The advertising network may collect the following to serve relevant ads:

  • Cookie identifiers and browser fingerprint data
  • General location derived from IP address
  • Pages visited and interaction data on this site

If you decline cookies, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised. The specific ad network in use will be disclosed here once configured prior to the site's commercial launch.

Note: Ad network details will be updated in this policy before advertising goes live.

Analytics

Analytics scripts are only loaded after you grant consent. Analytics data is used to understand aggregate usage patterns (e.g. which map regions are most popular, page load performance) in order to improve the site. No analytics data is sold to third parties.

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-KQPY72S43D) to collect anonymised, aggregate usage data — pages visited, session duration, and approximate geographic region (country/city). Individual users are not identified. Analytics are only activated after you accept cookies. You may opt out at any time via the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding personal data:

  • GDPR (EEA/UK): Right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
  • CCPA (California): Right to know what personal information is collected, right to delete, and right to opt out of the sale of personal information. AeroPlanimetry does not sell personal information.
  • All users: You can withdraw cookie consent at any time via the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address below. Because we do not maintain a user database, we may ask you to identify which third-party service holds your data and direct you to their data subject request process.

Data Retention

We do not retain personal data directly. Vercel server logs are retained according to Vercel's own data retention schedule. Third-party cookies set by ad and analytics networks are retained for the periods specified in those providers' own policies, or until you clear your browser cookies.

Children's Privacy

AeroPlanimetry is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data via this site, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Policy Changes

We may update this policy from time to time, particularly ahead of the site's commercial launch when advertising and analytics providers are confirmed. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
