A free online map viewer for Antarctica in a true polar projection (EPSG:3031, Antarctic Polar Stereographic), so the whole continent is shown with far less distortion than in the usual web map projection.
Imagery and terrain: Esri Antarctic imagery, the Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica (LIMA, 15 m), the Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica (REMA) as hillshade and colour-tinted elevation, NASA Blue Marble relief and bathymetry, and daily MODIS Terra true colour. Maps and science: USGS topographic maps at 1:50,000, 1:250,000 and 1:500,000, USGS sketch maps, NASA MEaSUREs ice velocity, SCAR place names, the SCAR Antarctic Digital Database coastline and ice shelves, and research stations.
Use the search box to find a place, measure distances and areas (calculated on the ellipsoid, so they stay accurate in the polar projection), draw lines, polygons and buffers, click the map to query the layers that support it, convert coordinates between decimal degrees and degrees-minutes-seconds, and load your own KML or KMZ files. UTM is not defined over most of Antarctica, so the UTM conversions do not apply there. It is free for personal use and needs no account.
